Research briefs on request, a nightly track record, a $25 floor

Several things change on books that are already running, with no switch for you to flip, so this note is worth reading to the end.

What changed for people using Bellwether

  • Scheduled research briefs are off by default. The 07:45 and 12:00 CT briefs stop on every book that had not switched them on, from the first plan after this release. Each affected book gets one notice saying so and where to turn them back on. A new book's day-one brief and any brief you ask for still run.
  • Two routine model sessions stop. The Quant's nightly write-up no longer runs; its numbers are still computed every evening by code. The Critic's review after each batch of orders stops too. The Critic's check before a trade stays, and so do the findings code computes.
  • A nightly track record, and tax lots. At 18:45 CT each book's day is sealed into a daily record chained to the day before, so a past day cannot be changed quietly. After the close each book's tax lots are rebuilt from its fills. The day report gains a track record section and a taxes section.
  • Small books get a $25 floor. The desk no longer opens a new name with less than $25, in the preview and when the order is written. Adding to a name you already hold is not affected. Books under $10,000 also get a cap on how many picks they carry.
  • Theme tilts through Guidance. Tell the desk about a theme in Guidance and it may answer with a card listing the names, the reason for each and the size. Only after you confirm does code build the basket at the close, through the usual approvals and every risk check. Ending the tilt sells the extra back.

What you may notice

  • The Overview's figures end with one line that compares the book, after the desk's cost, with the S&P 500 fund over the same days, dated by its last compared close. Under 20 trading days it shows the gap and says it is too early to read.
  • A small Discovery tile under Risk on the Overview says how many research ideas are open, tested and retired this week, and opens the register on the Evidence page. Performance gains a section, Against SPY, after AI cost.
  • Text that reaches the desk from outside, such as filings, news and search results, is now marked as quoted material inside delimiters a document cannot forge. It cannot carry instructions to the desk.
  • On mornings without a brief the Portfolio Manager reads the news for your held and watched names itself and says so.
  • No limit was loosened by this release.

Switched on

  • The nightly track record and the post-close tax lots run on every book from the first evening after this release. The first run writes each book's history once, marked as reconstructed.
  • Theme tilts are available. They do nothing until you confirm a tilt card.
  • Switched off by default from now on: the scheduled research briefs, the Quant's nightly write-up and the Critic's review after each batch.
  • Built and left off: the idle cash sweep into Treasury bills, the always-on desk with a spending budget, the earnings release reader, and the two new desk roles.

Known gaps and what’s next

  • The second opinion when you override the desk, and the optional cooling-off, are live behind the scenes. Their dialog arrives in a later console release.
  • Under Settings, Display, the Ambient effects description still mentions a few specks of drifting dust. It is out of date and will be corrected.
